Tour a Rooted Garden Kitchen Garden in River Oaks
The Rooted Garden team loved designing and installing this kitchen garden project as a birthday gift for this River Oaks homeowner.
The clients available space, situated along the driveway, was also near a side access door from the kitchen. In addition, the gardens are seen each time they leave and return home.
Powder Coated Raised Kitchen Garden
Powder coated raised kitchen gardens are versatile, beautiful and long lasting.
This client’s garden bed was custom designed with a gray hue to coordinate with the exterior trim details of their home.
The thin profile is ideal for garden spaces that are narrow, or for clients who prefer a modern décor style.
Powder coated gardens are made to withstand the test of time and will perform for many years.
Pathways and Borders are a Rooted Garden Principle
Raised kitchen garden installations always include gravel pathways, and often stepping stones, for garden tending comfort.
The stone pathways vary in width based on the clients space and preferences, but always provide a clean aesthetic, and assist in moving water away from the garden during heavy rains.
Trellises for Vining Vegetables
Another Rooted Garden principle is metal trellises in our raised kitchen garden installations.
Trellises add beauty to the space, while providing a functional feature for vining vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and peas.
In this garden, an arch trellis is ideal for marrying the two gardens together, while providing ample growing space.
Documenting Your Successes in the Houston Kitchen Garden
Successful gardening requires patience, and the willingness to adapt, as weather and other conditions can affect the garden.
Documenting what was planted, where it was planted, the output and even the weather each season is helpful for planning each season in the kitchen garden..
Intensive Planting Method
A kitchen garden is different from a traditional row garden because we plant a variety of vegetables and herbs together, very intensively.
Our Rooted Garden philosophy is to maximize our clients kitchen garden space, for maximum beauty and production in the garden.
Seen here is a combination of bush beans, ready for harvest, peppers and herbs. In addition, flowers are often included in order to attract beneficial pollinators to the garden.
Naturally and Organically Grown Plants
Rooted Garden uses only plants grown naturally, without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. The result is a healthy plant that can withstand the challenges in the garden, naturally fight off pests and become a productive producer.
Many clients are surprised that with this organic approach our gardens are maintained chemical free. Since our plants never started their life with these harmful chemicals, they have learned how to adapt and withstand the first sign of trouble in the garden.
Pruning the diseased or distressed part of the plant is our first line of defense against garden pests. This philosophy allows the healthy part of the plant to still grow and produce.
Bountiful Harvest
All of this amazing harvest of herbs, peppers, beans and blueberries came from just over 50 square feet of garden space!
During each season in the kitchen garden clients can likely expect excess of certain vegetables and herbs that will provide their needs.
Throughout the entire year, our clients can expect daily harvests of herbs and greens-the Houston kitchen garden really is non-stop.
