Houston, Texas is one of the most wonderful cities for growing a garden. We like to say, it’s literally ‘non-stop.’

Because of our warm climate, our continuous rainfall and our special dose of sunshine, the Houston kitchen gardens grow and grow and then they grow some more.

After setting up raised bed kitchen gardens in more than 150 Houston backyards, we know everything there is about gardening in Houston and our goal is to help you with every step in your own Houston Kitchen Garden.

While the garden in Houston is non-stop, it can also be overwhelming. Our seasons aren’t like the rest of the country and the plants we grow here are quite different than what you’ll find in most vegetable and herb gardening books.

But our goal is to remove the confusion and overwhelm, share all we know, and guide you along your own garden journey in your own Houston kitchen garden.

The first step to work together is a Garden Consult. During this hour long visit, we’ll teach you about the four unique seasons of Houston, help you determine your own goals for your Houston kitchen garden and then work alongside you to design a beautiful kitchen garden that fits your desires, needs and hopes.

After your consult, we’ll work with our artist and team to prepare a custom design sketch and estimate for your new kitchen garden.

Upon approval, we’ll get to work-constructing your raised beds, ordering your trellises and preparing for install. Your Houston kitchen garden includes all you need to start growing: beautiful raised beds meticulously crafted by hand and set up with our custom system, seamless irrigation that helps ensure your plants get the water they need when they need it, locally and organically grown plants that thrive in Houston weather, and beautiful trellises to accentuate your space and make room for your vining vegetables and fruit.

We do all the heavy lifting and teach you all you need to know to remove the overwhelm and make your Houston garden the way it was meant to be-beautiful, exciting and productive.

Did you see our feature in Southern Living Magazine?

In March 2020, Rooted Garden was featured in Southern Living Magazine. The article, Backyard Grocery, tells the story of our founder, Nicole Burke and documents the kitchen garden transformation in one of our great clients’ backyards…right in the middle of Houston.

It was such a treat to share this story with the Southern Living audience. We were so excited to share the magic of the Houston garden with the rest of the South (we know they’re jealous!!)



Coming Spring 2020: Kitchen Garden Revival

Rooted Garden Founder, Nicole Burke, has a new book that releases this spring called Kitchen Garden Revival.

Kitchen Garden Revival by Nicole Burke

Kitchen Garden Revival is a call for all of us to set up, grow and enjoy our own modern kitchen gardens, just the way Nicole has led so many to do in their Houston backyards. Nicole was contacted by the Cool Springs Press publisher in early 2019 and spent the spring and summer of the year writing this 200 page hardcover book.

The book, Kitchen Garden Revival, features 19 of Rooted Garden’s Houston kitchen gardens throughout its pages. Nicole worked with Eric Kelley of Eric Kelley photography to take film photographs of her Rooted Garden clients’ gardens to fill the chapters of her book.

Featured in the book are gardens from Piney Point Village, River Oaks, West University, Bellaire, Memorial and Tanglewood.
