What Will Your Garden Look Like? What Material Will you Choose?

At each of our on-site garden consultations, we dive into garden selections. Much like building a new home or decorating a home, gardens can take on entirely different looks depending on the materials we use to build them.

Our goal is for the garden to compliment your existing exterior features of your home and outdoor spaces. When your garden is complete, we want it to seem like the garden has always been there and was part of the original design of the home.

CEDAR

Perks: cedar gardens are beautiful and less expensive than other materials we use to create gardens. Cedar is also durable and forgiving. Small scratches do not show up, and minor dings are easily repaired. Downsides: it wears out over time (much like a wooden fence) and takes up more space than our steel options.

Cedar gardens last about 7 years. Cedar boards are also much thicker than steel, for example, so you get less soil and growing space in a cedar box compared to a steel box.

STAINED CEDAR

If you like the look of cedar, but want a pop of color, we can stain your garden boxes. It’s easy to color match the boxes to an existing color on your home or in your outdoor living area.

STEEL

Perks: because of its narrow footprint, steel is perfect for narrow spaces. Steel also has a sleek, modern look. The best perk about steel? It literally lasts a lifetime. Plan on passing your steel garden boxes down in your will. Downside: steel is more expensive than cedar.

RAW STEEL

Raw steel is the least expensive steel option. This type of steel rusts and patinas over time. This type of steel is very forgiving. If you got kids, dogs, or a lot of traffic near your garden, this type steel is a great choice.

PAINTED STEEL

Painted steel is sleek and gives a clean, modern look. Painted steel may need to be touched up or repainted every few years - much like a steel fence. This type of steel comes in a large variety of colors.

POWDER COATED STEEL

Powder-coated steel is breath-taking. If you’re wanting your garden to give a wow-factor, powder coated steel will not disappoint. It’s unbelievably beautiful. Powder-coated steel is the most expensive steel option. Powder-coated steel has to be treated very carefully. If it gets scratched it can rust and the only way to repair the scratches or rust is to send the boxes back to the fabricator to re-powder coat. Powder-coated steel comes in a variety of color options.

STONE

Stone gardens are timeless and lovely. If your home is stone, we can build your garden from the same stone. Stone gardens require a cement footer to be installed under each garden bed. Securing the stone gardens to a footer will ensure your garden will last for generations. Stone is one of our more pricey options, but it lasts a lifetime.

BRICK

Brick garden beds are also timeless. They make a statement and can easily be matched to the brick on your home or painted any color. Brick gardens require a cement footer to be installed under each garden bed. The bricks are secured to the cement foundation to prevent shifting or settling.

STUCCO AND CEMENT

This design is luxurious and works well in both modern and traditional spaces. To achieve this look, we lay a cement footer under each garden bed. Our mason secures cinder blocks or bricks to the footer and then covers the cement with stucco for a clean, finished look. The stucco or cement can be white or the color of your choice.
